A biking mecca in the making

A recent article in the Aspen Times by Janet Urquhart adds fuel to the fire that Carbondale’s future as a biking capital, and base camp for all things Colorado is starting to take hold.

The town has already taken a “base camp” marketing approach, boasting its proximity to what the valley as a whole has to offer, as well as what visitors will find in Carbondale — fly fishing and paddling on the Crystal and Roaring Fork rivers, cross-country skiing at Spring Gulch and backcountry opportunities on iconic Mount Sopris, to name a few. Bicycling — both road and mountain biking — could rise to the top of the list.

Carbondale’s New Website Design

Kenyon Design Works was recently in the news discussing the value of a tourism oriented website for the Town of Carbondale. As a member of the Tourism Council, owner, Thomas Kenyon was pitching the idea to the Board of Trustees in a recent work session.

CARBONDALE, Colorado — A website dedicated specifically to attracting potential visitors to Carbondale is the main goal behind a request for additional town funding to support the project, local tourism officials explained at a Tuesday town council work session.

“Right now, the website [www.carbondale.com] is totally chamber oriented, and really is more of a business directory,” said Bob Fullerton, chairman of the Tourism Council of Carbondale. “What it needs to do is represent the broader Carbondale community”

Added web designer Tom Kenyon, who also works with the tourism committee, “The goal is to create a better brand for Carbondale, and a strong web presence is critical to that.

“We do have a lot of traffic to the website, but it’s not saying ‘come to Carbondale.’ It’s not generating that emotional buying decision,” Kenyon said.
